Cockaponset SF / Weber Woods

Town: Clinton / Westbrook
Date of activity: June 23, 2010
Condition of trail(s): Very good/mostly dry
Trail Ambassador Name: Don Hazuka

Encounters and Observations: I had run some ideas about creating a couple of new connecting trails by the DEP Land Manager, so I decided to explore that terrain with compass in hand; had a nice ride in scorching weather; mosquitoes and deer flies were brutal; passed through some low lying spots that just don’t seem to want to dry out; made my way to the kiosk at the eastern parking lot on Route 145 for my weekly replenishment of the map box (and shamelessly with some NEMBA applications); then on to bushwhacking a connecting route between two “grey” dead-end trails off the red trail; it appears that someone already had the same idea and marked a rough route with blue ribbons; I’ve got to do a lot more walking of these potential trails and gather much more info before I attempt to submit a trail request application; most of the trails in this parcel are a result of old logging roads, so my goal is to create some well thought out man made ones to add to what’s in place; a great ending to a mid week workday.
